Portland Design — one desk to rule the studio

When Portland moved into their new Holborn space, they wanted a centrepiece that wasn’t just a desk — it had to be a creative engine. We designed, manufactured and installed a single, flowing workstation from 50 mm birch ply, sculpted to fit their team and the way they collaborate. It’s part furniture, part sculpture — a place to sketch, plan and dream big at the heart of their new studio.

The form grew from how the Portland team works: wide sweeps for collaboration, tighter curves for focused spots, built-in routing for cables and power so the surface stays clean and ready for ideas. We hand-finished the heavy birch ply to bring out its natural warmth, then set it on crisp white steel legs to keep the whole piece feeling light despite its scale. The result is a bold, functional centrepiece — a desk built to spark conversation and creative energy every day.
