Bespoke collaborative studio desk in birch plywood

When Portland Design moved into their new Holborn studio, they wanted a centrepiece that wasn’t just a desk — it needed to function as a creative engine. We designed, manufactured and installed a single, flowing workstation from 50mm birch plywood, shaped around how their team collaborates day to day. Part furniture, part sculpture, it sits at the heart of the studio — a place to sketch, plan and share ideas.

Designed around people, not floorplans.

The form grew directly from how the Portland team works: wide sweeps for collaboration, tighter curves for focused moments, and integrated routing for power and data to keep the surface clean and uncluttered. The heavy birch ply was hand-finished to bring out its natural warmth, then paired with crisp white steel legs to give the desk a light, architectural feel despite its scale. The result is a bold, functional centrepiece — a bespoke studio desk designed to support creative energy every day.
